Caleigh's birthday week has come to an end. Although we are still calling it her birthday month, the big day has come and gone.
Caleigh, our sweet little girl, is now six years old. It's crazy to think that six years have flow by so fast.
When we asked Caleigh what she wanted to do for her birthday, she did not want a birthday party. She immediately asked for a trip to Morgan's Wonderland. We've taken Caleigh several times and each time she loves it more. I tried to throw in a pool party, but she didn't want anything to do with it. So we made plans and drove down to San Antonio this past Friday.
Caleigh was so excited about the trip that she didn't sleep the night before we left. We had planned on making it out of the driveway at 6am, but we actually rolled out at 8am. We took the scenic route down; stopping often.
When we made it to Morgan's, Caleigh hadn't napped and it was hot.
We only stayed for a couple of hours and then headed up to Austin where we stayed the night.
We checked in, unpacked and then took off walking around downtown. We called it an early night mostly because we were all exhausted.
The next morning we woke up and headed back down to Morgan's for a full day of play. In this photo, we asked Caleigh if she was ready to go. It was a yes.
We had a great time at the park. Caleigh told us what she wanted to do and we did it.
A simple, happy birthday for our girl.
The carousel is still her favorite and she rode it several times.
Never one to pose, this is our family photo from the trip.....
We left Morgan's and went for dinner. Then we went back to our hotel, cleaned up and headed out for a walk again.
Before we left on our trip, Caleigh had been studying mountains and caves, and with that, animals that live in caves, i.e. bats. So we went to the library and got several books on the winged creatures. We also planned a trip to the Congress St. bridge in Austin to watch the bats emerge at sunset. Caleigh was so incredibly excited about this.
So that night we headed down to the bridge and waited. waited. waited.
Finally, at 8:30pm the bats came out. Thousands of them.
By the time they came out, we had been on the bridge for an hour and we were all tired from our day of play.
It was pretty cool to see again and Caleigh enjoyed it, but as soon as it was done we walked back to the hotel room and crashed.
On Sunday, we took our time getting ready. We headed to the capitol building just to walk around and discovered that it was open.
Caleigh enjoyed going through security and getting her wheelchair checked for bombs. She was smiling and giggling at us from the other side of the metal detectors while we were waiting to go through.
We walked the grounds for a long time reading about the history of Texas.
After we were done, we headed out for brunch and then some shopping before starting home. I think we pulled into the driveway at 7pm. I gave Caleigh a bath and she was asleep by 7:30.
Caleigh had a great time on her trip, and in all honesty it was exactly what she wanted in a birthday celebration. She just loves to travel and experience new things.
Eric and I are beyond blessed to be called Mom and Dad to this amazing little girl.
