Niagra Falls

Hello Niagara Falls

Our trip to Niagara was short and sweet. Caleigh was pretty miserable with the temperature, but we pushed on to view the falls. A lot of what is typically open in the summer season wasn’t even visible due to all the snow and ice. There was still a good number of tourists and getting close to the railing by the overlooks wasn’t the easiest of adventures. I can’t even imagine what the regular season holds as far as visitors.

Funny story…an older couple walking along turned right in front of Caleigh and her wheelchair. The wheelchair basically took the women out. Her husband started yelling at us in some unknown language while waving his arms frantically. We smiled and maybe giggled a little bit. What else could we do? She should watch were she is going. Not all kids travel with heavy accessories like our Caleigh.

The falls were beautiful, still partially frozen and honestly a little underwhelming coming from someone who has always wanted to see the wonder. I’m pretty sure all the aerial views I’ve seen throughout my life led to this. With the observation tower closed due to ice our view wasn’t fantastic. I’m sure the Spring and Summer holds a more enjoyable experience. The Canadian side of the falls looks more impressive with a full view of the falls. Since we didn’t bring passports we hung out on the American side only which may have contributed to our opinions.

By the time we were almost done, Caleigh was letting out a constant, head down whine. She was beyond done with the whole thing. I will say that my chin and jaw were so cold that I couldn’t even get words to sound right. It was so incredibly cold for the obvious southern tourists. We made it back to our van and tracked down one of the only restaurants actually open in the off season and called it a day.

The following day, I asked Caleigh if she liked the falls and she immediately answered no. Maybe our timing was off with this stop. Maybe she doesn’t have to care about massive amounts of water falling off the edge of a cliff. Either way we have some interesting memories and a story.

The next morning we got up with fluffy snow flakes falling and headed towards Manhattan. Along the way we experienced some slippery roads and a lot more snow than we are used to. It made for some unexpected fun. We definitely traveled back into Winter while home is enjoying Spring.

Our two day stay in New York City was fast and fun. More on our adventures in the Big Apple coming up next...
